International Arbitration
International arbitration practice covers the full ‘life cycle’ of arbitration from advice on arbitration clauses and internal dispute resolution policies for companies to enforcement of arbitral awards. Sergey Usoskin acted as counsel in arbitrations under all major institutional rules (including the ICC, LCIA, SCC and Swiss Rules) as well as in ad hoc arbitrations. He has also represented clients in enforcement / set aside proceedings before all levels of the Russian courts.
For a number of years Sergey headed the Russian Arbitration Association’s Working Group on amicus curiae submissions where he led teams that submitted amicus briefs in 10 arbitration-related cases before the Russian Supreme Court.
Representative experience
- Representing a client in an ad hoc arbitration concerning the management of a joint venture operating Russian assets;
- Representing a large Russian telecom company in an arbitration against a foreign state-owned company;
- Representing a software developer in an arbitration against the client concerning quality of the software and payment for the services;
- Representing a Russian airline in an arbitration against a foreign leasing company;
- Representing a Russian agro business in successfully defending an ICAC at the Russian CCI (MKAS) award in set aside proceedings;
- Representing a major shipyard in proceedings concerning enforcement of an SCC award.
