Choosing an arbitrator may the most important decision a party makes in an arbitration. Where the facts underlying the claims are disputed arbitrator’s familiarity with the cultural context and business practices in the respective country may be critical. Yet, until recently, there was no comprehensive resource on arbitrators focusing on Russia-related disputes.
Russian Arbitrators Guide seeks to fill this gap by setting up a comprehensive online database featuring profiles of arbitrators with significant experience in Russia-related arbitrations. These profiles include information about each person’s professional and educational background, experience as arbitrator and counsel, as well as procedural preferences.
The first stage of the project – Next Generation – includes profiles of under-45 practitioners who have at least 5 years of experience handling Russia-related arbitrations or sat as arbitrators in at least 3 arbitrations. It features profiles of more than 80 practitioners practicing from Russia, England, France, Hong Kong and Switzerland who can conduct arbitrations in Russian, English, French, Spanish and Ukrainian.
Sergey Usoskin serves on the Executive Board of the Guide alongside with Marina Akchurina (AkchurinaLegal), Denis Almakaev (Hogan Lovells), Izabella Kharlamova (Baker Botts) and Olga Tsvetkova (Egorov Puginsky Afanasiev & Partners).
